Sarah Macaulay

Artistic freedom.

For Sarah Macaulay of Macaulay & Co. Fine Art, owning a gallery is all about freedom. After years spent modeling with busy schedules overseas, the Monday-to-Friday, nine-to-five regimes didn’t work for her. Fortunately, Macaulay gained skills through modeling that prepared her for the art world: travelling, working intense, compact hours, and dealing with all sorts of people, which comes in handy when navigating the tough art business. In order to succeed, she advises, “you have to feel a deep confidence that everything’s going to be alright.”

With a vested interest in the arts, it was only natural for Macaulay to end up where she is. After co-running Gastown’s Blanket Contemporary Art Gallery from 2005 to 2012, she branched off and opened Macaulay & Co. Fine Art in 2012 in Vancouver’s new contemporary art district, the Flats.
