Michel Torino and Famiglia Bianchi Malbecs

The wines.

Malbec month continues, and here are some bottles not to be missed. The Cuma malbec from Michel Torino, all bright fruit and fine structure, is a marvelous organic wine to sip on, or enjoy your favourite cheeses with, before digging into the big meat du jour. From the Cafayate Valley, Salta, this Argentinian is ready for prime time. Prime rib that is, $15.

From Valentin Bianchi, the Famiglia Bianchi malbec is all luscious fruit, explosive flavour, and fabulous structure, belying the winery’s efforts in modernizing and maximizing what their San Rafael, Mendoza vineyards can do. Really a quality proposition at $20.
