• The Robert H. Lee Alumni Centre will serve as a resource for the University of British Columbia’s 300,000 alumni.

  • With spaces ranging from 350 to 4,700 square feet, the building is designed to accommodate everything from meetings to private special events.

  • The West Jet Sky Lounge located on the top floor offers panoramic views of campus.

  • The Wong-Trainor Welcome Centre serves as the official receiving space for visitors to the university. The building will also house e@UBC, a centre for innovation and entrepreneurship.

  • At 41,700 square feet, the new facility offers a state-of-the-art conference and event space. The Jack Poole Hall celebration space can accommodate up to 300 guests.

  • A main feature of the 41,700 sq.-ft. facility is the fir and Western red cedar wood staircase.

  • Commemorative trees were a common custom of UBC graduating classes. The last elm tree standing, planted in 1933 as part of beautification efforts, was preserved and stands next to the new Robert H Lee Alumni Centre.

  • Vancouver’s Hughes Condon Marler Architects and Toronto’s Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg designed the $18.5-million centre, named after one of UBC’s most engaged alumni.

Facilitating connections.

The newly opened $18.5-million Robert H. Lee Alumni Centre is a legacy of the University of British Columbia‘s $1.5 billion Start An Evolution fundraising campaign. A home for alumni for life right at the heart of the Vancouver campus, the Alumni Centre is named in honour of one of UBC’s most dedicated graduates: prominent local business leader and philanthropist Robert H. Lee. The state-of-the-art building, designed by Toronto’s KPMB Architects in joint venture with Hughes Condon Marler, is a physical symbol of the relationship between UBC and its 300,000 alumni.

The building contains a welcome centre, learning facilities, meeting rooms, library, lounge, cafe, and Jack Poole Hall conference and event space. It will also house e@UBC, a centre for innovation. The freestanding, multi-level 41,700 square foot LEED-certified facility will be feted this week at a gala dinner staged in the centre’s Jack Poole Hall.
