There are co-working spaces, and then there is East Room. Located in Toronto’s up-and-coming Riverside neighbourhood, this shared working office is the country club meets the nightclub, bringing a bit of well-deserved fun to its tenants. A favourite of designers, photographers, public relations specialists, videographers, and other creative professionals, East Room provides stylish digs along with a packed schedule of extra curriculars.
Members can opt into a range of different packages, starting from just a mailing address with invites to events, to a full office suited for five to eight employees with access to the boardroom. The space has a cool, industrial feel: exposed brick, a sleek marble kitchen, worn leather chairs and couches, and vaulted warehouse windows.
What sets East Room truly apart from other co-working spaces, though, is its offering of unique, exclusive events and services. Sitting at a beautiful desk is great, sure, but it’s equally as important to take time away from it. For that, East Room offers East Run Crew, which takes members on guided jogs through the neighbourhood and is sponsored by a little sporting apparel company called Nike. And on one Thursday each month, after-work drinks with coworkers are coupled with DJs spinning vinyl and a selection of “prohibition-style” cocktails (presumably not of the teetotalling variety). The space also holds its famous Room Service shows once a month, presented by Timberland, which feature some impressive talent; recent performers include Melo-X (producer on Beyoncé’s Lemonade) and Lion Babe.
East Room, not unlike its tenants, has a bright future ahead of it.
