Ela Handbags

Stars and studs.

The era of the “it-bag”, full of its fabled Fendi baguettes, waiting lists, and celebrity-induced hysteria, has finally, and assuredly, evolved. While remnants can be found in must-have trapeze totes and sell-out Target collaborations, women are embracing individuality and often see their handbag as an extension of themselves. Now, we simply murmur softly to ourselves in the middle of Holt Renfrew, “That’s the one.”

Ela Handbags—a Swedish and Canadian accessories line—has found a foothold in the new “it”. Founded by Ela and Martin Aldorsson, the leather handbags are designed in Canada and crafted in Spain. The Aldorssons began in 2010 with a popular M.I.L.C.K. clutch, which debuted their signature subtle asymmetry and set the tone of humble luxury. Today, Ela’s collection has expanded to include sleek totes and day-to-evening chain strap shoulder bags. They’ve also expanded across the border and are selling out on the floors of Saks Fifth Avenue across the United States.

The spring/summer collection, titled Jungle Punk, introduces a goat leather drawstring bucket bag to the ranks. Pyramid studs, star treatments, and an abstract leather tiger—complete with a barbell nose ring and ear studs—add just enough punk to their refined silhouettes to tow the fine line between sophistication and youthful rebellion.

Truth be told, we’d happily wait in line for it.
