Ballet BC’s “UN/A”

A first for last.

As Ballet BC closes in on the end of another successful season, they’ve kept a first for last. The upcoming presentation of UN/A marks a Canadian introduction to Spanish choreographer Gustavo Ramirez Sansano, the artistic director of the Chicago-based Luna Negra Dance Theater. Sansano—considered a rising star in the international dance world—has received multiple awards for his choreography at competitions in Barcelona, Hamburg, and Valenica. “I really enjoy the calm and open minded feeling of [Vancouver] … this is a place that you can try out things,” Sansano says, having just come off of a premiere in New York with Ballet Hispanico. When discussing his new work for his debut in Canada, Sansano says, “All the ingredients such as the music, the space, and the atmosphere come at different moments. At some point those ingredients somehow come together and then I start a creation.”

UN/A runs at Queen Elizabeth Theatre from April 24 to 26 at 8:00 p.m. each night.
