Equal parts gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth, the Negroni cocktail turns one hundred years old this year. To kick off Negroni Week celebrations, we asked Homer St. Cafe and Bar’s beverage director JS Dupuis, and bar lead David Wolowidnyk to share their favourite takes on the classic Italian aperitif. The JS-A-Roni by JS Dupuis
Ingredients
1.0 oz Beefeater gin
0.5 oz Campari
0.5 oz Cynar
1.0 oz Cinzano Orancio
1.0 dash of saline solution
Method
Mix all the ingredients into a mixing glass, add ice, and stir.
Using a strainer, strain into an Old-Fashioned glass.
Zest a lemon on the cocktail and rub around the rim.
Garnish with wide lemon peel.
Harry McElhone’s Old Pal by David Wolowidnyk
Ingredients
1.5 oz Canadian Club Chairman’s Select
0.75 oz Campari
0.75 oz Noilly Prat Dry
Method
Mix all ingredients into a mixing glass, add ice, and stir.
Using a strainer, strain into a coupe.
Zest lemon on the cocktail, and rub around the rim. Discard of the lemon peel and enjoy.
The Negronito Spritz by JS Dupuis
Ingredients
0.75 oz Beefeater
1.5 oz Campari
1.0 oz Cinzano Orancio
1 ml Bittered Sling Orange & Juniper bitters
3.0 oz club soda
Method
Add all the ingredients into a wine glass, gently stir to mix.
Add ice, and garnish with a dehydrated orange wheel.
