Louis Vuitton has joined the global fight against AIDS, lending its iconic weight to support (RED), the non-profit organization that has raised hundreds of millions of dollars for AIDS treatment and prevention in Africa through the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
With the launch of the Louis Vuitton I (RED) candle, the company proudly joins the ranks of other iconic brands around the world who have partnered with the organization to raise funds. For each candle sold, the French fashion house will donate $60 directly to the Global Fund to fight AIDS in support of (RED).
To craft the candle’s fragrance, the fashion house brought in its master perfumer, Jacques Cavallier Belletrud. Looking to evoke feelings of love, freedom, and warmth, Belletrud turned to the peony flower for its characteristic floral scent, and notes of spice, wood, and fruit.
Louis Vuitton turned to internationally acclaimed industrial designer, Marc Newson, who created a hand-cast, white ceramic container and hand-sewn, natural leather handle, in which the candle sits. For maximum visual impact, the white, opaque finish to the candle’s wax contrasts with the hand-painted wick coated in a vibrant shade of red, which also adorns the candle’s lid and base.
Each candle sold is expected to raise enough funds to provide 300 days of lifesaving medication to someone living with HIV/AIDS.
The Louis Vuitton I (RED) candle is now available in Louis Vuitton stores worldwide including the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, and online at louisvuitton.com.
