Founded in 1935 by renowned Finnish architect and designer, Alvar Aalto, along with his wife Aino Aalto, visual arts promoter Marie Gullichsen, and art historian Nils-Gustav Hahl, Artek was borne from the desire to fuse art and technology. They proposed a new ideology for housing—one designed to be functional, timeless, and versatile, and produced with technical expertise.
This philosphy is manifest in the Armchair 400, available through Inform Interiors. Designed by Aalto in 1936, the 400’s bent natural lacquered birch arms are evidence of his curiousity for experimenting with materials.
Optional reindeer fur upholstery is the ideal Finnish finish.
