Mikimoto Regalia is a new collection of fine cultured pearl jewellery from the highly respected company. Chief creative director Yoshio Sato says, “Mikimoto Regalia celebrates our rich heritage.” The new pieces are all inspired by special pieces from the company’s archives. Founded by Kokichi Mikimoto, known in his time as “The Pearl King”, in 1898, that archive is rich indeed. Mikimoto, after many tribulations, found a way to “seed” oysters, to create the world’s first cultured pearls. Joe Dimaggio famously gave his wife, Marilyn Monroe, a fabulous Mikimoto necklace, way back in 1954. but by then the company had already achieved international acclaim, and the Regalia collection is an elegant expression of the brand, as it moves through the 21st century.
