Buccellati

The artifact.

Gianmaria Buccellati is a creative force in his namesake company, which has been producing esoteric gold art object for generations. Innovation, though, has always been a mainsty of the company’s identity. This year, Buccellati offers for the first time what they call “Furry Animals” (although some in fact are birds). The coats or feathers of these creatures are made by an intricate process, mastered by Buccellatti goldsmiths, in which fine filaments of silver “hair” or “feathers” are sketched, then hand-etched, attached to a plaster cast, and eventually all welded together in a classic case of art imitating life.
