“16” by Bocci

The light.

Designer Omer Arbel has been waiting nearly a decade for Bocci’s latest art piece, 16. First conceived in 2007, Bocci didn’t yet have the necessary technology to construct the leaf-like fixture of layered coloured molten glass (milk white, transparent grey, and clear) wrapping around an LED lamp. There are 480 of these lights growing from branch-like stainless steel armatures, scattered around a landscape of burnt wood plates at the entrance to the Fairmont Pacific Rim. “The gratifying thing about this project is to see a spark from the past finally realized,” Arbel says. That spark has grown into the glow of 16’s ethereal forest, a mystical welcoming into the hotel.
