Vancouver is starting to see things through a whole new lens.
All the way from the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, luxury eyewear brand Oliver Peoples has arrived on Alberni Street. It’s a perfect fit, really: a California company putting down roots in another West Coast city with culture drenched in the waves of the Pacific.
Founded in 1987 in West Hollywood, Oliver Peoples quickly became the most coveted eyewear brand in Los Angeles with its vintage-inspired products. Handcrafted in Italy and Japan using the finest materials, the brand’s retro-style frames are designed with cutting-edge technology, making them the perfect mix of traditional and contemporary.
The Alberni Street shop (the brand’s second in Canada, following a location in Toronto that opened in September 2018) pays tribute to Vancouver’s natural landscape, specifically the greenery of Stanley Park, which is said to have wildly impressed creative director Giampiero Tagliaferri. Incorporating a colour palette reminiscent of the city’s lush environment, materials like suede sage, 1960s ribbed walnut wood, and Verde Alpi marble panels make the room feel like an opulent mountain chalet. The 687-square-foot store, which opens November, also features hand-placed Terrazzo marble flooring and vintage Stilnovo lighting fixtures—two quintessential touches of the brand.
In celebration of its opening, the Vancouver boutique is offering a limited-edition version of its iconic OP-505 frames designed just for the city. The glasses flaunt washed teal acetate, 18-karat gold metal, and mirrored gold-tone lenses; and in true Oliver Peoples fashion, they deliberately lack a visible logo, a reminder of the label’s understated confidence.
Vancouverites can now join the ranks of Elton John, Spike Lee, and Christian Bale’s character Patrick Bateman in the 2000 thriller American Psycho as Oliver Peoples enthusiasts. Coming straight from the heart of La-La Land, the store is a fitting addition to Hollywood North.
Stay in Style.
