AX arm chair (1947). Designed by Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen, manufactured by Fritz Hansen.
Architects Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen produced over 250 furniture pieces together between 1944 and 1975. The AX arm chair is one of their iconic pieces, and was the first Danish chair with a seat and back made of double curved laminated wood. Several variations were built, including a version with and without armrests, and one with reversible leather upholstery instead of the wooden seat. The chair was also specially designed for export; the seat and back can be disassembled and packaged separately for easy and economical shipping.
