Spider Lamp (1965). Designed by Joe Colombo; manufactured by Oluce.
With a lacquered metal base, chromium-plated stem, and adjustable reflector in lacquered aluminium, renowned designer Joe Colombo’s Spider Lamp was made to withstand time with its durability and simple composition. Modeled to take a distinct horizontal light bulb, the table lamp won the Compasso d’Oro award in 1967; the jury awarded the concept for its inventive approach—Colombo’s design allowed for the development of a lamp collection using the same shade and different anchorage. It is currently part of multiple permanent collections across the globe from Philadelphia to Dusseldorf to Milan, and is also part of Nancy Bendtsen’s outstanding personal collection in Vancouver. For those who wish to own it themselves, the Spider Lamp is still available for purchase, manufactured by Oluce, one of the oldest Italian lamp and lighting production companies still active today.
