Louis Vuitton Savoir-Faire Exhibit

louis vuitton savior fair

After premiering in New York, an exhibit of hardsided luggage made by the artisans at Louis Vuitton’s Asnières atelier made its way to the Vancouver boutique for a few days. Two artisans were on hand to demonstrate how they apply their skills to bespoke pieces; exotic handbags and high jewellery were also present in this powerful travelling exhibit. It is part of the ongoing 2017 celebration of Louis Vuitton savoir-faire, with an emphasis on both history and on special orders—something Louis Vuitton himself offered from the inception of the company, in 1854.

Some of the pieces on display included a shoe trunk, aptly named Secretaire chaussures, a tea service trunk, and an amazing Casino trunk, which contains an actual roulette wheel among its many features. Creative director Nicolas Ghesquière has brought both a new energy and a profound respect for the brand’s history into the large trunks and his Petit Malle collection, many of which were on display and available for purchase (while the exhibit ends on Jan. 16, some items will remain in store).

When your history is as rich and deep as Louis Vuitton’s is, it just makes sense to explore the archives, to inform new materials and designs with the house DNA, making it possible for each customer to partake in contemporary fashion that carries the heft of history with every piece.
