Miuccia Prada once described fashion as “instant language”. Before we have spoken to someone, before we have heard their voice or understood their intentions, we see their clothing. It sets the tone of a person.
Prada is now bringing this conversation to Vancouver with its first boutique in the city. Opening March 11, the two-level store spanning nearly 760 square-metres introduces the luxury designer’s iconic Italian prestige to coveted Alberni Street. Designed by Italian-registered architect Studio Baciocchi, it offers both men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, footwear, accessories, and leather goods.
Covered by the brand’s signature checkered black-and-white marble flooring, the boutique’s refined finesse is felt throughout the differentiated women’s and men’s sections: a grand black marble staircase with video installations; walls of green fabric, ebony, and Marquinia marble; ostrich leather and green velvet couches; crystal and steel display counters; Verner Panton Clover Leaf sofas.
The Vancouver location is the first one in Canada to feature Prada’s Made to Measure service, enclosed in a private VIP area. Here, guests can be measured for custom suits, coats, shirts, and pants from a variety of fabrics, styles, and fits, to be meticulously made by the brand’s skilled tailors.
If fashion is instant language, the boutique is where we engage in a deeper dialogue. Through the large glass windows of Prada, the talking points are clear.
