The Graffigna Centenario Reserve Pinot Grigio is a lovely example of great price, high-quality white wine grown in Argentina. It has a pale green hue, and a refreshing bouquet of light stone fruits and a touch of citrus. It is a fine sipping wine for while your prep the dinner vegetables, but it goes very well with seafood appetizers. At $12 a bottle, you would be hard pressed to find better value.
A perennial winner is still in stride: Finca Los Primos Malbec ($13). This is part of the famous Valentin Bianchi family of wineries, and boasts estate-grown fruit. It has a marvelous, spicy nose, and, at this price point, downright startling amounts of tannin and dark ripe berry fruit, with a hint of plum. Francisco Martinez is the winemaker for all Bianchi wines, and he has been with the company since 1979. This bottle shows he is not resting on past successes.
