Without going into the politics of it all, safe to say there has never been a more crucial time for wine lovers to be fully aware of the prices they pay for wines, and the value proposition is if anything even harder to sustain. This non-vintage wine continues to amaze, as newer versions of it are released. With that in mind, it is well worth keeping the name Bodega Norton front of mind when you are looking for a great value wine that over-delivers. Bodega Norton is an Argentine wine company, and has been in this market for a long time now.
The regular offerings are terrific, but the Bodega Norton Reserva Malbec ($18) is so delicious, you might be inspired to go out and get a whole case of it. Dark, inky, with brambleberry and blue plum notes, some nice oak, and a hint of licorice here, chocolate there. All in all, a wine that will accompany any grilled protein you want, since it is in fact soft enough on the tannins to match well with fish as well as meat. It is also a wine that would pair nicely with a fine cheese plate and the remains of your loaf of bread, and will perhaps fuel the conversation about whether R.H. Geiger was an inspired artist, or something other.
