The Viceroy Cocktail

Recipe.

If the very discovery of a new butterfly species is special enough to reach the label on the Knob Creek whiskey bottle—the best-selling premium bourbon in the world today—then certainly it’s worthy of creating a cocktail in celebration. While the Viceroy may not be the exact butterfly described on the background artwork of the bottle, the name embodies both the delicate beauty of these winged insects, and the powerful, regal position of the homonymously named monarchical official. The combination of flavours in this cocktail creates a stunning elegance on the palate and an immeasurable complexity, allowing the whiskey to shine as brightly as the wings of a butterfly. Have two of these and, you never know, it might start to rain in the Amazon.

INGREDIENTS

2 oz. Knob Creek 9 Year Old Straight Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey
¾ oz. Disaronno Amaretto
¼ oz. Giffard Abricot du Roussillon Liqueur
¼ oz. Alvear Amontillado Sherry
2 dashes Bittered Sling Clingstone Peach Bitters

METHOD

01. Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass.
02. Add ice and stir until chilled and well diluted.
03. Using a julep strainer, serve neat in a cocktail glass.
04. Cut a thin orange peel cheek, remove the pith, express the oils over the top of the cocktail, and garnish.
